School Transportation
Parents/guardians are required to request transportation for their child for the school term. This is an annual requirement. Requests for bus transportation will be honored only if the student is eligible for transportation as determined by criteria established by the Georgia DOE and the Dougherty County School System. Your child will be assigned a bus ride to and from school and service will be provided from only one pickup and drop-off location that designated by the transportation department. Pickup and drop-off to business establishments will not be honored.
Please complete a Student Transportation Request Form for each child. Before submitting a transportation request, ensure the student information is updated in the Dougherty County School System student database system (Infinite Campus). Incorrect student information will delay the process for assigning students to the correct bus. It takes approximately 24 hours for student’s information to update in the student database system. After the information has been updated, our routing software will locate the student, then the student will be assigned transportation.
All transportation requests will be submitted via email: TransportationRequest@docoschools.org. After submitting the transportation request, please allow up to 72 hours for a response about student transportation. Once complete, bus information will be sent to the requestor or school administrator with the student’s bus assignment.
For students requiring transportation for specialized programs, please contact the following departments before transportation can be arranged:
For the Exceptional Student Program, please call 229-431-1313.
For McKinney-Vento and English to Speakers of Other Language, please contact the student’s school.
Bus transportation is provided for students who live 1.5 miles or further from their assigned schools. The school system operates one of the state's largest bus fleets, consisting of 153 buses transporting 13,500 students to and from school, approximately 1 million miles per year. Bus drivers must hold commercial drivers' licenses and pass pre-employment and random drug tests. Buses are inspected each year before school starts by the Georgia State Patrol. The safety of our students is our priority in the Dougherty County School System. Citizens are encouraged to notify the Transportation Department with any concern about school bus transportation.
Riding a bus is considered a privilege and not a right. Students who wish to enjoy this privilege must follow certain rules and regulations in order to help ensure safe and orderly bus transportation. Discipline will be strictly enforced. To ensure bus safety and to help control behavior problems, the Dougherty County Schools Transportation Department uses monitoring video cameras and recorders.
How to Look Up Your School Zone:
The Dougherty County School System is a zoned system meaning that the school your student attends depends on where that student lives (with exceptions for magnet programs and schools). To look up your student's school zone, you can go online to the link below, complete the online form and the information will be provided to you. NOTE: If your address has changed, parents need to update the address in Infinite Campus. You can contact the parent facilitator at your school for assistance.
