ALBANY, Ga. – School officials, community partners, and excited students gathered recently to celebrate the ribbon cutting of a revolutionary new learning system at Sherwood Acres Elementary School.
The innovative Lu System, funded through a competitive grant awarded by the Dougherty County School System's Charter System Innovation Grants Program, transforms the school gym into an interactive learning environment, seamlessly integrating academic subjects with physical activity.
On Friday, April 19, 2024, school leaders cut the ribbon on the project, allowing community partners to view and participate.
"It's really been a hit with our students," Principal Yvette Simmons said. "Here at Sherwood we're always looking for ways to enhance the learning experience and this system really blends together some of the things the students are learning in class with the physical activity they get in P.E."
Learning Through Movement:
The Lu System utilizes a variety of interactive floor projections and sensors, creating a captivating learning experience that goes beyond traditional textbooks and lectures. Students work together in teams, moving around the gym and responding to prompts displayed on the floor. This engaging format fosters collaboration, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking, while simultaneously promoting physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
Grant Funding Innovation:
The Lu System was made possible through the Dougherty County School System's Charter System Innovation Grants Program which is designed to support the implementation of bold, creative initiatives within the district's schools.
To date, more than $1 million has been awarded to schools to support innovative learning projects.
Transforming Education:
The Lu System represents a significant shift towards a more holistic and engaging learning experience. By incorporating movement and competition into the curriculum, the platform caters to a variety of learning styles and provides students with an opportunity to excel in a dynamic and interactive environment.
