Students participate in drone lesson

Some International Studies Elementary Charter School fifth-grade students learned that some city employees use drones through the city’s engineering department.

All fifth-grade students choose a topic to conduct research on and include hearing from community experts when possible.

Rob Griffin, Assistant Director of Engineering for the City of Albany and Mike Gatlin, also from the engineering department, spoke to the students about how they use drones to accomplish their mission.

After asking questions, everyone went outside and Griffin and Gatlin demonstrated flying the large drone. The students were amazed at the capabilities of the drone and appreciated being able to talk and ask questions about this technology. They will use this experience to create their presentation for their IB-PYP Exhibition.
